1. What we collect

When you contact us or submit a film or series, we collect the information you provide — typically your name, email address, phone number, the names and contact details of the director, producer and rights holder, and the materials associated with the title (logline, synopsis, trailer, screener link, poster, runtime, country and category).

2. How we use it

Your information is used solely for the purpose of operating True Continent — evaluating submissions, contacting you about your title, onboarding accepted films and series, and distributing and marketing the work under a signed agreement. We do not share your information with anyone outside the purpose of the site.

3. Who sees your submission

Submissions are reviewed by the True Continent acquisitions team. If your title is accepted, our team will contact you to onboard the film or series and provide a written agreement. Materials are not forwarded to third parties, broadcasters or external buyers without your explicit consent under a signed distribution agreement.

4. Storage and security

We store submissions and contact information on reputable cloud providers and apply reasonable technical and organisational measures to protect them. No system is perfectly secure, but we treat all submitted materials as confidential.

5. Retention

We keep submission information for as long as needed to evaluate the title and, if accepted, to administer the distribution relationship. You can ask us to delete your submission and contact details at any time.

6. Your rights

You can request access to, correction of, or deletion of the personal information we hold about you by emailing hello@truecontinent.com. See also our Terms & Conditions.

7. Cookies and analytics

True Continent uses a small number of cookies and similar technologies to operate the site and to understand how visitors use it. Specifically, we use Google Analytics 4 (set/read by _ga and related cookies) for aggregated, anonymised traffic statistics — page views, country, device type and referring source. We do not use advertising cookies, and we do not sell visitor data. You can decline non-essential cookies via the banner shown on your first visit, and you can clear or block cookies in your browser at any time.

8. POPIA notice (South Africa)

True Continent is based in South Africa and processes personal information in accordance with the Protection of Personal Information Act, 4 of 2013 (POPIA). For the purposes of POPIA:

  • Responsible party: True Continent.
  • Information Officer: contactable at hello@truecontinent.com.
  • Lawful basis: we process personal information on the basis of your consent (when you contact us or submit a film) and our legitimate interest in operating the platform.
  • Purpose: evaluating submissions, contacting filmmakers, onboarding accepted titles, and distributing accepted titles under signed agreements.
  • Sharing: we do not sell or rent personal information. Information is shared only with service providers strictly necessary to operate the site (e.g. email delivery, secure cloud storage) under appropriate confidentiality terms.
  • Cross-border transfer: some of our service providers may store data outside South Africa. We only use providers that offer protections substantially similar to POPIA.
  • Your rights under POPIA: you can access, correct, delete, or object to the processing of your personal information, withdraw consent, and lodge a complaint with the Information Regulator (South Africa) at inforegulator.org.za.
